The voices of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
14 voices in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. Every one is a separate voice, cast to the character as written.
- Narrator — Carroll's warm, whimsical third-person narrator — gently absurdist, fond of Alice, occasionally conspiratorial with the reader.
- Alice — A curious, bright, and startlingly polite seven-year-old girl who falls down a rabbit-hole into a world of impossible logic. Alternates between wonder, indignation, and dogged practicality.
- White Rabbit — A white rabbit in a waistcoat who is perpetually, anxiously late. Officious and formal when not panicking.
- Cheshire Cat — A grinning cat who fades in and out of visibility, leaving only its smile. Philosophical, cryptic, and entirely unbothered by the madness around it.
- Mad Hatter — The host of an eternal tea party, perpetually stuck at tea-time following a quarrel with Time. Aggressively hospitable, deeply illogical, prone to riddles with no answers.
- Queen of Hearts — The imperious, temperamental Queen whose solution to every problem is 'Off with their heads!' A cartoon tyrant who terrifies everyone in Wonderland.
- Caterpillar — A large blue caterpillar smoking a hookah who questions Alice with Socratic coldness. Slow, deliberate, utterly unimpressed.
- Gryphon — A half-eagle, half-lion who acts as Alice's gruff guide, dismissing most things with cheerful bluntness and dragging her to the Mock Turtle.
- Mock Turtle — A mournful, weeping turtle who was once a real turtle in school. Endlessly nostalgic and melodramatic about his schooldays.
- March Hare — The Hatter's partner in eternal tea-party madness. Similarly unhinged but slightly more erratic and less entertaining.
- King of Hearts — The Queen's mild, ineffectual husband who presides nervously over the trial and tries to be reasonable without ever succeeding.
- Duchess — A loud, violent woman obsessed with finding a moral in everything. Holds her pig-baby roughly and shouts at her Cook.
- Dormouse — A small, perpetually sleepy mouse at the tea party who occasionally rouses to tell a story before dozing off again.
- Mouse — A formal, dignified mouse in the Pool of Tears who takes offence easily and tells a very dry, historical narrative.
